Senate Bill No. 2212 Summary

• State Department of Health shall study the state's current framework for providing services to individuals with catastrophic diseases, such as inherited metabolic diseases, during the 2011-12 biennium.

• Department must work with stakeholders to develop a proposed plan for providing services to individuals with catastrophic diseases.

• Department shall contract with a third party to assist in the study, which may examine incidence of occurrence, treatment efficacy, manner of treatment, age, means, insurance coverage, and services provided by other state, federal, or private programs.

• Department must report findings and any proposed legislation necessary to implement the proposed plan to legislative management before August 1, 2012.

• $60,000 is appropriated from the general fund to the State Department of Health for the biennium beginning July 1, 2011, and ending June 30, 2013.
