Department of Human Services shall negotiate with state and private entities to purchase private health insurance coverage and public employees retirement system health insurance coverage as an alternative to traditional medical assistance for eligible adults in the caretaker adult group and transitional medicaid group.

Department shall seek appropriate federal waivers of statutory or regulatory requirements as authorized by federal law to implement this alternative coverage option.

Effective January 1, 2012, eligible adults in the caretaker adult group and transitional medicaid group shall be offered an annual choice to receive coverage through either the traditional medical assistance program or through private health insurance.

Department of Human Services shall provide annual reports to the legislative management on the implementation status of this provision.
