Senate Bill No. 2316 Summary

• Amends school board powers to explicitly authorize providing alternative schools and alternative school programs for students in grades six through twelve.

• Modifies funding formulas for school districts by assigning a 0.25 weighted multiplier to full-time equivalent students enrolled in any grade from six through twelve in alternative high schools or alternative school programs.

• Expands the weighted average daily membership calculation to include students in grades six through eight (previously limited to high school students only) for alternative education funding purposes.

• Adds a new poverty-based funding factor of 0.025 multiplier for students eligible for free or reduced lunches based on a three-year average percentage.

• Effective July 1, 2011, and declared an emergency measure.
