State department of health shall establish a training program for early recognition and intervention of eating disorders, consistent with standards of nationally recognized mental health and eating disorder organizations.

Training program access information must be provided to physicians, physician assistants, nurses, dentists, dental hygienists, psychiatrists, psychologists, social workers, counselors, and schools that train these professionals.

Neuropsychiatric research institute shall study eating disorders in North Dakota during the 2011-12 biennium, including data on diagnosed cases, training adequacy for educators and healthcare providers, and treatment costs borne by state medical assistance programs and private payers.

Study must identify strategies to increase awareness of eating disorders, assess access to care issues within the state, and provide recommendations to improve prevention, early detection, and treatment with fiscal impact estimates.

Neuropsychiatric research institute must report findings and recommendations to legislative management before August 1, 2012.
