Drivers involved in accidents resulting in injury, death, or property damage of at least $1,000 must immediately notify local police (in municipalities) or the county sheriff or state highway patrol (in unincorporated areas).

Violation of the notification requirement results in a $50 fine.

Drivers must provide motor vehicle insurance policy carrier name and policy number to the investigating law enforcement officer, or supply this information to the driver's license division within five days if not immediately available.

The director may suspend a driver's license and any nonresident operating privileges for failing to comply with accident reporting duties, with suspension extendable up to 30 days.

Drivers involved in accidents with undomesticated animals resulting in damage only to the driver's vehicle are exempt from notice requirements regardless of damage amount.
