Amends definitions in North Dakota Century Code Chapter 12-44.1 to clarify terminology related to correctional facilities, including adult lockup, court holding facilities, and trained correctional facility staff.

Redefines "trained correctional facility staff" to require completion of training approved by the peace officer standards and training board instead of the department of corrections and rehabilitation.

Requires correctional facility administrators to ensure that staff working in direct and continuing contact with inmates receive training approved by the peace officer standards and training board.

Adds "Grade four" classification for adult lockup and court holding facilities where individuals may not be detained overnight, expanding the facility grading system used to determine allowable inmate confinement lengths.

Passed with overwhelming support: 90-0 in the House and 47-0 in the Senate.
