Senate Bill 2022 Summary

• Appropriates $14,304,404 total funds ($11,923,410 general fund) to the Commission on Legal Counsel for Indigents for the biennium July 1, 2013 through June 30, 2015, including $2,641,994 in enhancements and 3 additional full-time equivalent positions

• Increases the nonrefundable application fee for indigent defense services in district court from $25 to $35, to be paid when the application is submitted

• Allows district courts to extend payment time, waive, or reduce the application fee if a defendant is determined to be financially unable to pay all or part of the fee

• Directs that application fees collected be deposited into the indigent defense administration fund

• Expresses legislative intent that defendants charged with felonies and provided counsel by the commission pay $575 for reimbursement of attorney's fees
