Board may audit a random sample of continuing education license renewal applications, with licensees required to maintain records for three years and subject to nonrenewal or discipline for failure to comply.

Dental hygienists may perform procedures under direct, modified general-indirect, or general supervision of a licensed dentist, with general supervision permitted if procedures are authorized in advance except where direct supervision is mandated by board rule.

State Board of Dental Examiners authorized to enter an agreement with the same professional organization as the State Board of Medical Examiners under section 43-17-07.1.

Dentist applicants must hold a doctorate in dental surgery or dental medicine, pass national and regional dental examinations, pass a state law and rules examination within one year of application, and meet any additional requirements established by board rule.

Non-dentists prohibited from owning more than 49 percent of a dental practice, with exceptions for board-approved medical clinics, hospitals, public health settings, nonprofit organizations serving underserved populations, and heirs or personal representatives of deceased dentists (limited to two years).
