Senate Bill No. 2255 - Summary

• Amends North Dakota campaign finance law definitions related to contributions and political committees, renumbering and clarifying definitional terms in Section 16.1-08.1-01.

• Adds definition of "Subsidiary" as an affiliate of a corporation under the corporation's direct or indirect control through one or more intermediaries.

• Modifies Section 16.1-08.1-03.3 to clarify that political action committees may accept contributions from employees, stockholders, patrons, board members, or members of affiliated or subsidiary corporations, in addition to direct organizational members.

• Requires persons soliciting contributions to inform employees or members of their right to refuse contribution without reprisal.

• Passed the Senate 46-1 and the House 88-5 during the 2013 legislative session.
