Students enrolled in twelfth grade during 2016-17 must answer at least 60 percent of questions on a civics test to receive a high school diploma.

All other students must answer at least 70 percent of civics test questions to receive a high school diploma.

The civics test consists of 100 questions from the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services naturalization test covering U.S. history and government principles.

Students in public schools, nonpublic schools, distance education programs, home education, and general equivalency diploma programs are subject to this requirement, except those exempted by individualized education program plans.

Students may take the test starting in grade seven, may retake it as many times as needed, and no fees may be charged for test administration.
