Senate Bill No. 2090 Summary

• Amends eligibility requirements for the North Dakota career and technical education scholarship and the North Dakota academic scholarship for high school graduates and home-educated students beginning with the 2010-11 school year.

• Career and technical education scholarship requires completion of specific coursework in English, mathematics, science, social studies, physical education, and career/technical education, plus either a 3.0 GPA with C grades minimum or ACT score of 24+, WorkKeys assessments, or highest achievement level on statewide assessments.

• Academic scholarship requires two units in the same foreign language, Native American language, American sign language, or career and technical education (instead of one unit from each category), with otherwise similar academic requirements and GPA standards.

• Both scholarships now allow students to fulfill one unit requirement through advanced placement courses and examinations, or one-half unit requirement through dual-credit courses.

• Applies to students graduating during or after the 2010-11 school year or home-educated students completing programs during or after the 2012-13 school year.
