State Department of Health administers a student loan repayment program for licensed social workers and licensed addiction counselors in North Dakota.

Eligible individuals must have graduated from an accredited in-state institution on or after July 1, 2009, have outstanding student loans, and be employed full-time by the state or political subdivision in an underserved geographic area.

Underserved areas are identified annually by the State Department of Health in conjunction with the Board of Social Work Examiners and Board of Addiction Counseling Examiners based on service needs and available full-time positions.

Maximum loan repayment is $6,000 per year with a lifetime cap of $30,000 per individual; applications are processed in chronological order.

Appropriates $360,000 from the general fund to the State Department of Health for the biennium beginning July 1, 2015, and ending June 30, 2017.
