Physicians, physician assistants, naturopaths, and individuals licensed under chapter 43-12.1 must report wounds, injuries, or physical trauma inflicted by knife, gun, or pistol to law enforcement as soon as practicable.

Healthcare providers must also report injuries they have reasonable cause to suspect were inflicted in violation of any North Dakota criminal law to law enforcement in the county where care was rendered.

Reports for sexual offenses must exclude the injured individual's name, address, and identifying information unless the individual provides written consent.

Healthcare providers must provide injured individuals with information about domestic violence sexual assault organizations or other victims' assistance programs when reporting domestic violence or sexual offense injuries, unless previously provided.

Oral reports must be followed by written reports within 48 hours if requested by the sheriff or state's attorney; willful failure to report is an infraction; good faith reporters are immune from liability.
