Lessors must deposit security deposit money in a federally insured interest-bearing savings or checking account for the benefit of the tenant.

Security deposits and accrued interest must be paid to the lessee upon lease termination, subject to conditions in subsection 2.

Lessors may not demand or receive security deposits exceeding one month's rent.

Lessors may accept up to two month's rent as a security deposit from individuals convicted of a felony offense as an incentive to rent the property to them.
