Knowingly possessing a firearm or dangerous weapon at a public gathering (athletic or sporting event, school, church, or publicly owned building) is a class B misdemeanor.

Exempts law enforcement officers, armed forces and national guard members on duty, sport shooting competitors, gun shows, blank cartridge users at sporting events, firearms in temporary residences or vehicles, hunter safety instructors and students, and private security personnel on duty.

Allows concealed weapons license holders to carry in churches or places of worship with written approval from the primary religious leader or governing body, and requires local law enforcement to be informed of authorized individuals.

Permits municipal court judges, district court judges, attorney general staff, and retired law enforcement officers to carry if they maintain required firearms proficiency certification.

Exempts churches and places of worship from liability for injuries, deaths, or property damage caused by individuals authorized to carry concealed weapons under this section.
