Full-time law enforcement officers with a minimum of two years of employment and a license under chapter 12-63 are eligible for a 25 percent waiver of resident tuition and fees at state-controlled higher education institutions.

Eligible officers must maintain satisfactory performance, obtain authorization and a certificate of verification from their superior officer, meet all admission requirements, and pursue an associate or baccalaureate degree.

The waiver may be received for up to five years from the date an officer first receives a waiver under this section.

The waiver applies to tuition and fees after subtracting federal financial aid grants and state scholarships and grants.

The total amount of waivers granted annually by all state-controlled institutions may not exceed one million dollars, and the attorney general shall adopt rules to implement this section.
