Knowingly possessing a firearm or dangerous weapon at a public gathering (athletic or sporting event, school, church, or publicly owned or operated building) is a class B misdemeanor.

Exempts law enforcement officers, correctional officers, armed forces members, sport shooting competitors, and participants in authorized educational, training, cultural, or competitive events involving dangerous weapons.

Exempts individuals with a valid concealed weapons license or reciprocity authorization, including those carrying concealed weapons in churches or places of worship with approval from religious leaders or governing bodies.

Exempts municipal court judges, district court judges, attorney general staff members, and retired law enforcement officers who maintain required firearms proficiency and obtain a certificate of compliance.

Allows political subdivisions to enact less restrictive ordinances that supersede this statute within their jurisdictions.
