ND HB1193

Prohibits North Dakota political subdivisions (cities, counties, townships, school districts, and other local governments) from enacting, maintaining, or enforcing living wage mandates exceeding the state minimum wage rate.

Defines "living wage mandate" as a requirement by a political subdivision that mandates employers pay wages higher than required by state or federal law.

Applies the prohibition to living wage mandates enacted before or after the effective date of the act.

Extends the definition of "employer" to include public agencies, contractors and subcontractors with political subdivisions, and recipients of tax abatements, loan guarantees, or other financial assistance from political subdivisions.

Passed the House 73-20 and the Senate 35-11 during the 2019 regular legislative session.
