Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation shall establish a pretrial services program pilot project in three judicial districts from July 1, 2019 through June 30, 2021.

Pilot project requires coordination among the department, judicial branch, commission on legal counsel for indigents, and state and local law enforcement agencies to provide pretrial services for felony and misdemeanor defendants.

Pretrial services include objective risk assessments, background investigations, recommendations for release conditions including community-based behavioral health services, monitoring and supervision for compliance, and reporting violations to district court.

Department and judicial branch must report process and outcome measures of the pilot program, recommendations, and any required legislation to the sixty-seventh legislative assembly.
