Legislative management shall conduct a study during the 2019-20 interim to determine whether adequate safety measures exist to prevent train-motor vehicle collisions at railroad crossings.

Study must include consultation with the department of transportation, highway patrol, and associations representing counties, cities, townships, and the agricultural community.

Study must examine railroad crossing design and safety, feasibility of design changes to reduce obstructions, and adequacy of traffic and pedestrian warning signals.

Study must review availability of federal funding for railroad crossing improvements and feasibility of equipping trains with safety technology.

Study must compile data on railroad crossing accidents and incidents occurring in North Dakota annually over the past five years, with findings and recommendations reported to the sixty-seventh legislative assembly.
