Healthcare facilities may differentiate between physicians based on maintenance of certification if the facility's own designation or accreditation requires it, with approval by voting physician members and the governing body.

Facilities may still require physicians to meet continuing medical education requirements set by licensing boards and may mandate remedial training through quality improvement committees.

Facilities cannot consider maintenance of certification participation as a standard of care in quality improvement assessments.

Health insurers cannot deny reimbursement, prevent network participation, or discriminate on reimbursement levels based solely on a physician's decision not to participate in maintenance of certification.
