Individuals born after December 31, 1961, who are at least 12 years old and lack a hunter safety education certificate may obtain an apprentice hunter validation valid for one license year in their lifetime.

Apprentice hunter validation holders may hunt only small game and deer while accompanied by an adult licensed to hunt in North Dakota whose license was not obtained using an apprentice hunter validation.

"Accompanied" is defined as staying within visual contact distance that permits uninterrupted verbal communication without aid.

Individuals issued an apprentice hunter validation for the 2020-21 license year may receive one additional apprentice hunter validation for another license year in their lifetime.

Apprentice hunter validation holders must obtain all required licenses and stamps.
