Prohibits individuals from possessing a firearm or dangerous weapon at schools, school-sponsored athletic or sporting events, churches or places of worship, and publicly owned or operated buildings.

Exempts law enforcement officers, correctional officers, armed forces members on duty, security personnel, sport shooting competitors, hunter safety instructors and students, and individuals with valid concealed weapons licenses at churches with approval from religious leaders.

Allows individuals with valid class 1 or class 2 firearm and dangerous weapons licenses to possess firearms at publicly owned or operated buildings, except courthouses with weapon detection equipment and certain state mental health facilities.

Permits political subdivisions to enact less restrictive ordinances regarding firearm possession at public gatherings, which supersede state law within their jurisdiction.

Provides churches and places of worship immunity from liability for injuries or property damage caused by individuals permitted to carry concealed weapons under this section.

Makes violation of the prohibition an infraction offense.
