The Sixty-Seventh Legislative Assembly supports a July 2018 memorandum of understanding between the Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation and the Parks and Recreation Department regarding property in Burleigh County, North Dakota.

The memorandum grants Parks and Recreation Department an option to acquire custody of the Missouri River Correctional Center property (located in Sections 19, 29, and 30) if the Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation discontinues operations and divests custody of the state property.

Any transfer of property custody to Parks and Recreation requires approval from the Legislative Assembly and must be contingent upon Parks and Recreation Department's ability, resources, and available appropriations to develop the property into a state park.

The property includes approximately 300 acres of irrigated crop land under Water Permit No. 939 and has historically been used for agricultural research and operations dating back to the North Dakota State Farm in 1941.

The Secretary of State shall forward copies of this resolution to the Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation and Parks and Recreation Department.
