HCR 3039 Summary

• Directs the Legislative Management to study student internships and compensation for student interns in North Dakota.

• Requires testimony from student interns, for-profit and nonprofit employers, higher education institutions in and outside North Dakota, accrediting and licensing boards, Department of Labor, Department of Commerce, and other relevant persons.

• Study must examine the effects on employers and institutions of higher education of requiring monetary compensation for student interns.

• Study must evaluate costs and benefits of providing state grants to employers who hire student interns and whether such grants would incentivize out-of-state students to attend North Dakota state universities.

• Requires Legislative Management to report findings, recommendations, and any necessary legislation to the Sixty-eighth Legislative Assembly.
