Amends minimum high school graduation requirements to 22 units of coursework, including 4 units of English language arts, 3 units of mathematics, 3 units of science, 3 units of social studies, 1 unit of physical education or combined physical education/health, and 3 units of foreign languages, Native American languages, fine arts, or career and technical education courses.

Allows school districts and nonpublic schools to accept passing scores on relevant portions of the GED assessment as credit toward corresponding graduation requirements with board approval.

Establishes optional high school curriculum for students who have failed to pass at least one-half unit from three subject areas after two years or have a grade point average at or below the twenty-fifth percentile, with parental written consent.

Optional curriculum requires fewer units than standard graduation requirements: 2 units of mathematics and science instead of 3, and 2 units of elective coursework options instead of 3.

Passed the North Dakota Senate 44-2-1 and the House 89-3-1 during the 2021 legislative session.
