State Department of Health administers a school nurse grant program with rules adopted by the health council for application, eligibility, and grant distribution.

Department awards 10 part-time grants ($75,000 per biennium) and 10 full-time grants ($150,000 per biennium) to eligible school districts, distributed equally over two years.

School nurses funded by grants provide basic nursing services, monitor medication dispensing, assist with health screenings, provide health education, and perform additional duties as determined by the school board.

$2,250,000 appropriated from the community health trust fund to the State Department of Health for school nurse grants during the biennium of July 1, 2021 through June 30, 2023.
