Intentionally inhaling vapors of volatile chemicals to affect the central nervous system, create intoxication or hallucination, or distort vision, thinking, balance, or coordination is a class B misdemeanor.

A third or subsequent offense within one year is elevated to a class A misdemeanor and must include an addiction evaluation order and compliance with recommendations from a licensed addiction treatment program.

Medical, dental, and optometric inhalations and controlled substances are exempted from the prohibition.

The statute defines 27 volatile chemicals covered under the law, including acetone, butane, chloroform, methanol, nitrous oxide, toluene, and xylene.
