Retired teachers receiving annuities may return to covered employment after 30 calendar days from retirement and continue receiving monthly benefits if they stay within annual hour limits (700-1,000 hours depending on contract length).

Noncontracted substitute teaching, professional development, and extracurricular duties do not count toward the annual hour limit.

Retired members who exceed the annual hour limit must notify the fund office in writing or lose one month's annuity benefit, with benefits discontinued the first of the month after reaching the limit.

Retiring teachers who return to work can elect to pay member contributions; employers must pay employer contributions only if the retired member opts to contribute.

Teachers retiring after reemployment receive benefit calculations based on years of additional service earned: less than two years results in refund of contributions plus discontinued annuity; two to five years allows choice of additional annuity or recalculated annuity; five or more years allows choice of combined annuities or full recalculation based on total service.
