Each public school district shall administer at least two annual assessments in mathematics and reading to students in grades kindergarten through ten using either a state-provided interim assessment or an assessment from a state-approved list.

The superintendent of public instruction shall contract with a vendor to create and distribute the state-provided interim assessment to all public school districts at no charge.

Districts choosing to use an assessment from the state-approved list are responsible for all assessment-related costs.

Any interim assessment vendor must electronically share assessment data with the statewide longitudinal data system for statewide aggregated results, with individual district-level data sharing left to local district discretion.

The superintendent shall adopt rules establishing selection and approval criteria for state-approved interim assessment vendors.
