Department of Transportation shall allow counties, cities, or townships to affix penalty amounts to traffic signs prohibiting engine brakes and indicating vehicle noise ordinance enforcement.

Local jurisdictions may add penalty information to signs only if they have adopted and are actively enforcing a related traffic ordinance, and the Department of Transportation procures the sign.

Local jurisdictions must cover or reimburse the Department of Transportation for all labor, equipment, and material costs associated with sign installation.

Penalty signs must be uniform in size and text relative to the traffic sign and comply with the manual on uniform traffic control devices.

This authority applies only to state highways within counties, cities, or townships.
