Prospective tenants may request proof that a landlord actually completed a required criminal, credit, or other background check when it is a prerequisite for signing a rental lease

Landlords must provide proof of the completed background check within 14 days of receiving the results if a prospective tenant requests it

Landlords who fail to provide timely proof must refund all fees the prospective tenant paid for the background check

Adds a new section to Chapter 47-16 of the North Dakota Century Code governing landlord-tenant relationships
