ND HB1601

Prohibits the attorney general from refusing to appoint or revoking the appointment of special assistant attorneys general employed by nine statewide elected officials: Governor, Agriculture Commissioner, State Auditor, Insurance Commissioner, Public Service Commissioner, Secretary of State, Superintendent of Public Instruction, Tax Commissioner, and State Treasurer

Requires the attorney to be licensed to practice law in North Dakota and in good standing to qualify for the mandatory appointment protection

Modifies existing law to allow the attorney general to revoke appointments for certain entities (Workforce Safety and Insurance, Department of Transportation, etc.) only for good cause OR upon request of the entity, rather than good cause alone

Defines "good cause" for revocation as inadequate level of experience, competence, or ethical standards

Amends Section 54-12-08 of the North Dakota Century Code governing appointment and revocation of assistant and special assistant attorneys general
