Licensed genetic counselors may now order genetic testing (not just provide it) when working in coordination with a North Dakota licensed health care provider, rather than only when a provider orders the test

Genetic counselors are explicitly prohibited from practicing medicine, including treatment or medical management of patients, and must refer clients to a licensed physician if a disease or condition requiring medical assessment is discovered

The timeframe for completing certification examination requirements is extended from four to five years from initial examination

The board may now approve exceptions to the three-attempt limit on certification examinations through rule adoption
