High school student-athletes in Nebraska may earn compensation for use of their name, image, and likeness (NIL) while retaining eligibility for interscholastic athletics and activities

State Board of Education must adopt a model NIL policy by January 1, 2027, and school districts must implement consistent policies beginning with the 2027-28 school year

Students must disclose NIL activities to a designated school official prior to or within five business days of engaging in the activity, with an appeal process available

NIL activities cannot use school property/identifiers, occur during school hours or athletic events, be used for recruiting, or promote alcohol, tobacco, gambling, controlled substances, weapons, or adult entertainment

Schools must provide education to student-athletes and families on NIL activities including tax and financial implications, and penalties for noncompliance cannot include monetary fines but may include temporary ineligibility
