University of Nebraska contracts to acquire controlling or sole interest in any hospital or health care facility valued over $100 million require prior approval by the Legislature, or by the Executive Board of the Legislative Council if the Legislature is not in session.

Hospitals or academic health centers serving as primary affiliates of University of Nebraska Medical Center colleges cannot be owned or controlled by for-profit entities or out-of-state entities unless the Attorney General determines such ownership is in the public interest.

Any Attorney General determination regarding for-profit or out-of-state ownership must be made in consultation with the Board of Regents.

The bill amends Section 85-422 of the Reissue Revised Statutes of Nebraska and includes an emergency clause for immediate effect upon passage.
