Beginning January 1, 2026, retail liquor licensees must only employ staff engaged in alcohol sales, service, mixing, security, or age verification if they are certified or complete mandatory server alcohol training within 90 days of hire

Mandatory training must cover responsible beverage service practices, recognizing signs of intoxication, refusal of service to visibly intoxicated persons, ID and age verification, and local alcohol laws

The Nebraska Liquor Control Commission is required to create a mandatory server alcohol training program with enrollment fees not exceeding $30 and certification fees not exceeding $20

Retail licensees must maintain copies of employee certifications or proof of employment under 90 days on licensed premises

Licensees who employ non-compliant staff may have their license suspended, canceled, or revoked by the commission
