Health benefit plans in Nebraska must provide coverage for diagnosis and treatment of eating disorders beginning January 1, 2027

Required coverage includes medical, psychological, and pharmaceutical care; nutritional counseling by licensed dietitians; and services at all care levels including inpatient, residential, partial hospitalization, and intensive outpatient treatment

Insurers cannot deny or limit coverage based on a patient's body weight, BMI, physical appearance, or failure to complete a lower level of care first

Utilization reviews and medical necessity determinations for eating disorders must be conducted by providers with specific expertise in eating disorder treatment

Non-quantitative treatment limitations on eating disorder benefits cannot be more stringent than those applied to medical and surgical benefits
