LB878 Summary: Paid Maternity Leave for State Employees

• Full-time Nebraska state employees who give birth to or adopt a child are entitled to six weeks of paid maternity leave; part-time employees receive proportionate leave based on their regular workweek

• Leave must be used within six months of the child's birth or adoption and cannot be taken intermittently unless mutually agreed upon or medically necessary

• Employees must provide at least 30 days advance notice before beginning maternity leave, or as soon as reasonably practicable if circumstances prevent earlier notification

• Maternity leave runs concurrently with federal Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA) leave but does not reduce other accrued sick, vacation, or compensatory leave
