Hartung was an eighteen-time All-Around and individual event champion at South High School, where his team won State Championships all three years

At University of Nebraska-Lincoln, earned twenty-two All-American honors, won seven national championship titles, competed on four national championship teams, and received the Nissen-Emery Award as outstanding senior male gymnast

Named to U.S. Olympic gymnastics teams in 1980 and 1984; competed in 1984 and helped win the Team gold medal—the first and only time American men have earned that medal

Served as high-level international judge and assistant coach for UNL gymnastics for nineteen seasons starting in 2006; resolution directs a copy be sent to his family
