Nebraska Legislature congratulates the 55th Wing on its 85th birthday, celebrated March 29, 2025, recognizing personnel for distinguished service and excellence in aviation

The 55th Wing originated November 20, 1940, as the 55th Pursuit Group and evolved through fighter escort missions in WWII before transitioning to reconnaissance in 1947

Currently stationed at Offutt Air Force Base in Bellevue, Nebraska since August 16, 1966, with redesignation as the 55th Wing occurring September 1, 1991

The 55th Operations Group is Air Combat Command's largest group with 12 squadrons, two detachments worldwide, approximately 3,200 personnel, and 46 aircraft of seven different types
