Dogs must be permitted year-round in all New Hampshire state parks operated by the Department of Natural and Cultural Resources, provided they are under control

A dog is considered "under control" if leashed with a fixed-length leash not exceeding 6 feet, or through other methods deemed acceptable by the department

The department is prohibited from imposing year-round or seasonal bans on dogs from entire parks; restrictions can only apply to specific areas with documented risks such as swimming areas, beaches during peak seasons, environmentally sensitive zones, and temporary event areas

Dogs under control must be permitted wherever their owners are allowed within state parks, except in restricted areas

The bill takes effect July 1, 2026
