Water suppliers must immediately notify by telephone and email the governing bodies of municipalities and chief administrators of school districts, charter schools, nonpublic schools, and institutions of higher education served by the public water system when Tier 2 Public Notice violations occur under EPA National Primary Drinking Water Regulations.

Notifications must include the name of the contaminant exceeding standards, the maximum contaminant level or action level, the contamination levels found on each test date, test dates, sample locations, and locations where samples exceeded limits.

Water suppliers must also provide information on suggested measures customers can take to minimize the impact of the violation, in addition to federal Safe Drinking Water Act requirements.

The bill was pre-filed for the 2024 session of the New Jersey 221st Legislature and amended on January 12, 2026 pursuant to the Governor's recommendations.
