Landlords cannot restrict residential tenants to paying rent only by cash, personal check, credit/debit card, or any other single specific payment method—they must accept all of these forms of payment

Landlords cannot require tenants to pay rent at any location outside the building where the tenant resides

Landlords cannot charge tenants any fees for paying rent by cash, check, or credit/debit card, or for paying rent at any location

Violations constitute a disorderly persons offense, punishable by up to 6 months imprisonment, a fine up to $1,000, or both

Applies to all residential leases, renewals, or extension agreements executed on or after the bill's enactment date
