Personal protective equipment (PPE) would be added to the list of items exempt from New Jersey's sales and use tax

PPE is defined as coveralls, face shields, gloves, gowns, masks, respirators, and other equipment designed to protect the wearer from the spread of infection or illness

The exemption places PPE alongside other currently tax-exempt medical items including prescription drugs, over-the-counter drugs, prosthetic devices, and durable medical equipment for home use

The bill takes effect immediately upon enactment
