Upgrades assault charges by one degree when committed while violating a domestic violence restraining order issued under New Jersey's Prevention of Domestic Violence Act or substantially similar laws from other states

Creates first-degree crime (10-20 years, up to $200,000 fine) for aggravated assault causing or attempting to cause serious bodily injury while violating a restraining order

Creates second-degree crime (5-10 years, up to $150,000 fine) for aggravated assault causing or attempting to cause bodily injury with a deadly weapon while violating a restraining order

Creates third-degree crime (3-5 years, up to $15,000 fine) for recklessly causing bodily injury with a deadly weapon or pointing a firearm at another while violating a restraining order, with no presumption of non-imprisonment

Creates fourth-degree crime (up to 18 months, up to $10,000 fine) for simple assault while violating a restraining order, with no presumption of non-imprisonment
