Members of the Police and Firemen's Retirement System (PFRS) may now purchase service credit for prior public employment as a class two special law enforcement officer, including time spent completing required basic police training courses

Credit purchase is only permitted if the gap between service as a class two special law enforcement officer and enrollment in PFRS is less than 365 days

Current PFRS members enrolled as of the effective date have one year to apply for this credit purchase

The board of trustees must notify all PFRS members about this new credit purchase option

Members are not liable for costs associated with pension adjustment benefits or retiree health care benefits when purchasing this service credit
