Emergency shelter operators may bring eviction actions against occupants who refuse to vacate after their authorized stay duration has expired

Operators of emergency shelters can apply to the Department of Community Affairs for reimbursement of costs incurred and revenue lost while eviction proceedings were pending

Reimbursement requests must include the shelter name, date range, requested amount, and supporting documentation about the refusal to vacate and eviction action

Operators must submit reimbursement requests within 30 calendar days after the evicted occupant is served a warrant for removal

The Legislature will annually appropriate funds from the General Fund to the Department of Community Affairs to cover these reimbursements
