Requires the Superintendent of State Police to notify local law enforcement when a person attempts to purchase a firearm or ammunition but is denied because a background check reveals they are prohibited from possessing firearms under N.J.S.2C:39-7

Applies to persons prohibited from firearm ownership due to convictions for serious crimes including aggravated assault, arson, burglary, homicide, kidnapping, robbery, sexual assault, stalking, domestic violence offenses, and certain weapons and drug-related crimes

Also covers persons who have had firearms seized pursuant to domestic violence restraining orders or extreme risk protection orders

If the municipality where the denied person resides has no local police department, the State Police must inform the appropriate commanding officer with jurisdiction over that area

Notification requirements apply to both handgun purchase transactions and long gun (rifle/shotgun) transactions conducted through licensed retail dealers
