Each public institution of higher education in New Jersey must develop and implement a food waste reduction program on every campus

Unused, excess food from campus dining halls, facilities, and events must be redirected to local food security programs such as soup kitchens, food pantries, shelters, and community nonprofits

Programs must ensure all applicable food safety standards are met during selection, packaging, and transfer of donated food

Each institution must submit an annual report to the Governor and Legislature detailing contributions to local food security programs and post the report on its website

The act takes effect immediately upon enactment
